April 2022 is marked by the quality of vocational education and training (VET). The initiative is announced for the first time by the State Institute of Vocational Education (SIOV) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic and the Employers’ Council for VET. The Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic took over the patronage of the VET Quality Month. With the Quality Month we want to promote awareness of the importance of quality building and quality assurance and to present good practice in this area in Slovakia.

Part of the Quality Month is the presentation of the National Quality Award in VET, through which we want to strengthen the motivation of pedagogical and non-teaching staff in VET, to make visible their efforts, activities, results and to increase the prestige of VET in Slovakia. The aim of the award is to identify and highlight providers for ensuring high level quality in VET within the Slovak Republic. Public and private vocational secondary schools were eligible to be nominated for the National Award, and were eligible to apply for one of four categories. The announcement of the results of the National Quality Award in VET 2022 will take place during the Excellence in Vocational Education and Training – A Challenge for the Future Conference.

Each week we have an event for all stakeholders in the field of quality assurance and quality improvement:

  1. Training for teaching staff in the Banská Bystrica region, which focuses on the topic “Building a culture of quality in schools”, will take place on 5 April 2022.
  2. Discussion forum Quo Vadis for representatives of the management of secondary industrial schools and representatives of the Self-government regions, which will take place on 12 April 2022.
  3. A webinar for Self-government regions of Slovakia to inspire and share experiences with Self-government regions of the Czech Republic and their national project “Support to Regional Action Planning” will be held on 21 April.
  4. The International Conference Excellence in Vocational Education and Training – A Challenge for the Future, will be held on 28 April 2022.

We believe that VET Quality Month will be an opportunity to get the word out about quality in education, to explore the options available to us and to highlight examples of good practice.
